In 1998 Jay attended the Saskatoon Blades (WHL) main camp before returning to the Winnipeg South Blues (MMJHL) where he played for a short time, while attending the University of Manitoba, working towards an Economics Major and Sociology Minor. Jay finished his junior career with the Fort Garry Fort Rough Twins (MMJHL) and attended the Long Beach Ice Dogs (ECHL) training camp. Jay returned home and skated in the CBC reality TV show Making the Cut, placing in the top 100 across Canada. Jay played senior hockey for the Ile Des Chenes North Stars (HTHL), Altona Maroons (SEMHL), and Morden Redskins (SEMHL). Throughout his junior and senior career Jay won numerous awards including 3 league championships, team/league scoring leader, league’s most agile player, league’s most sportsmen like player, playoff MVP, team’s most valuable player and played in numerous all-star games. A combination of Jay’s skill, leadership, and devotion earned him the right to represent the team’s he played for as either a captain or assistant captain on multiple occasions. Jay has coached many different teams in a variety of leagues over the past 15 years including Ft Garry Flyers and the Tuxedo Lightning (A1), Ft Garry Ft Rough Twins (AA), Kelvin Clippers (WHSHL), Manitoba Lightning, Manitoba Mustangs, and the Junior Jets (Summer Hockey) and the Fort Garry Fort Rough Twins (MMJHL). Jay has twice been on coaching staffs that were awarded the league most valuable coaches. Jay coached teams that have played in multiple league, city, and provincial championships but he is still working towards capturing his first title. Jay has operated hitting clinics and learn to skate camps with teams, small groups, and in a one on one basis. Jay has conducted independent player evaluation and selection camps for different organizations at different levels. In 2005, Jay’s hockey experiences and successes, along with his passion, and desire for giving back to the sport, were combined when he and Bob Macgregor co-founded The Max Hockey School. Over the past 6 years Jay and Bob have added a great group of leaders, coaches, and instructors to the Max Hockey family, training hundreds of players. |
